O-I Launches Covet Classics in the Netherlands

New Standard Offering for Super Premium Brands in Glass

Schiedam - Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI), the world’s leading glass container manufacturer, launches in The Netherlands Covet Classics™, a collection of luxury glass packaging products of cosmetic flint glass. This collection is designed to help independent distillers and multinationals seize market opportunities in the growing craft spirits industry while deepening their connections with consumers.

O-I’s Covet Classics™ offers start-up distillers lower barriers to enter the premium segment of the market. They can place smaller volume orders, even at pallet level, an increase their speed to market.

“With Covet Classics™ we’ve created a new luxury product offering that leverages O-I’s existing footprint and proven expertise with high-end brands to serve the unique needs of this growing space in the market,” said Robert Brouwer, Specialty Business Leader Europe. “With our global capabilities, market knowledge and design and manufacturing expertise, we can provide customers with glass bottles that deliver a highly customized experience to the consumer. Covet Classics™ enables brands to make a distinguished first impression and to leave a lasting impression.”

The Netherlands is the first European country where three iconic bottle designs – Imperial, Grandeur, and Forte – are available for purchase through a partnership with distributor Catalonië Glasverpakkingen.”In collaboration with O-I, we offer a total package that includes a variety of qualitative and innovative closures “, says Rob van Spaendonk, Director at Catalonië Glasverpakkingen.

Many craft distillers and multinationals in North America and Latin America have taken advantage of Covet Classics™ to bring their brands to market since its launch in 2013. Among the first was FEW Spirits, who launched their successful handcrafted bourbon and rye whiskey in the Grandeur bottle and has since expanded their line to small-batch barrel gin. Most recently, Campari’s Wild Turkey turned to Covet to elevate their brand image as they entered the high-end bourbon market in the US and Australia with their limited edition “Master’s Keep,” in a customized Imperial bottle.

“Covet Classics™ designs bring out the absolute best that glass has to offer,” said Brouwer. “The variety and luxurious look add a brand. From the curve of the body and the glass’ heft in your hand to how a product catches the light, Covet Classics ™treats each brand’s glass package as an opportunity to evoke desire and inspire an exquisite brand moment.”
